SCRIPT MOVIE: First Time for Penny, by Janice Walker

Two strangers, Penny and Howard, arrive for a “get acquainted meet and greet” luncheon, arranged by their mutual friend Angela. Angela made the reservation for the luncheon at PF Chang’s Restaurant in Rookwood Plaza in the affluent community of Hyde Park in Cincinnati. The woman, Penny Monroe, has been through a rough patch since her fiance recently postponed their upcoming nuptials and called off their relationship without warning. An emotional wreck, Penny has been quite distraught over the past few months. Recently divorced Howard is devastated because he desperately loved his wife and was an unwilling party in the dissolution of their marriage. Angela thought that both needed to get out and about to breathe some fresh air and associate with someone new so that they both could begin the necessary process of putting their respective pasts behind them and forging ahead. Howard’s incessant conversation about his ex-wife Amanda drives Penny her into a chronic state of boredom. She humorously comments to herself throughout the conversation in total disbelief of Howard’s preoccupation with his ex-wife and total insensitivity. Suddenly Howard catches of glimpse of none other than his ex-wife Amanda in the same restaurant having luncheon with a male companion and he flips out determined to get her back. Once again Penny is in a familiar place — left alone to fend for herself.
