FEMALE FEEDBACK FILM FESTIVAL – Highlights of the Thursday December 22, 2016 Event

The first ever FEMALE DECEMBER 2016 FEEDBACK Film Festival (FFFF) was a great success. The sold out crowd loved the diversity of 6 films from 6 different countries in 6 genres all directed by a female.

The theme of the festival was “Inner Struggles”.

This was definitely a night of firsts as this was also the debut of Kierston Drier as moderator. This is the first of many for the reviewer/festival programmer and she couldn’t have been more exceptional, receiving rave reviews from the audience afterwards.

NOTE: The Female FEEDBACK Film Festival (FFFF) was such a success, we plan on coming back every 3-4 months and showcasing the festival in Toronto, Los Angeles, and New York City.

This was also a rare festival when all 6 films received multiple votes for “Best Overall Film.”

It’s always interesting chatting with the audience members at the break and after the festival. You hear such unique perspectives of the films and their reactions to the audience’s comments.

When I was a kid I loved going to the movies. I used to think that it all depended what seat you took in the cinema as to what movie you saw. I thought that every person watched a different movie. It was soon after when I realized that we all indeed were watching the same film. But then as I grew into an adult (and starting running this festival) is when I realized that I was right all along when I was a toddler – we were all watching our own movie.

And that is what this festival is all about. It’s an audience FEEDBACK Festival where we do all experience something unique and different…and we all are watching a different film than the person sitting next to us. – Matthew Toffolo

The irony of this festival is that its goal is to not be around in 5 years time. To eventually not be relevant because there is zero need to have a festival geared for female talent and female stories because the stories presented in Hollywood and around the world are a balanced showcase of the human experience from both sexes. Our goal is to achieve a lot of success and then fold into oblivion simply because there is no need for this festival. This festival was created by the FEEDBACK Film & Writing Festival as a simple reaction to a strong need to showcase female talent from around the world in a more profound way. When putting together the weekly festival, the administration noticed a lack of a female presence in the stories being shown at the festival. A classic example and analogy to the frustration is how the festival noticed that even the smaller roles in a screenplay were written for a man to play. There was zero reason for this in many stories. How a police officer, or a political campaign manager, for example with 3-4 lines in a screenplay was a "HE" character. Why? And these are the screenplays written by the winners! The talented one who have obtained agents and have began/beginning their careers as a writer.
