Katharyn R. King began acting onstage at 13 years old. She fell in love with the art and craft of live performance, but knew she wanted to become a more well-rounded individual, so she pursued the areas of technical theatre and directing as well. She ventured into Stage and Theatre management, Art Direction and Production Design.

She attended New York Film Academy’s Filmmaking program from 2012-2013 and then went on from there to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Media and Culture Studies. Her intention was to become a teacher, and she was later accepted in the Claremont Graduate University’s prestigious combined Master of Arts/Credentialing Program with a fellowship. Her battle with schizophrenia led to her dismissal from the program and she went back to Brandman for her Master’s in Educational Leadership the following year. She later went moved on to pursue a Master’s in English and Creative Writing with an emphasis in Screenwriting, all while producing and working on every project she could possibly get her creative, misshapen hands on.

She is a recipient of multiple awards, honors and certificates of recognition for her work as a Drama educator and thespian herself. When she’s not on production,Ms. King also represents the Southern California community as a professional acting coach (all ages), producer, music artist, linguist and contributing writer on multiple online writing platforms, such as Medium, Quora and Vocal Media.

One of her most beloved causes is #LeaveNormalBehind, a social impact movement whose mission is to encourage 8 billion people around the world with love to create things that matter, give back and encourage others to do the same. She has recently teamed up with Olympic Gold Medalist & 7x WNBA Legend Cappie Pondexter and Leave Normal Behind Founder Rob Fajardo to bring you a fresh media outlet called Above Normal.

By femalefilmfestival

The irony of this festival is that its goal is to not be around in 5 years time. To eventually not be relevant because there is zero need to have a festival geared for female talent and female stories because the stories presented in Hollywood and around the world are a balanced showcase of the human experience from both sexes. Our goal is to achieve a lot of success and then fold into oblivion simply because there is no need for this festival. This festival was created by the FEEDBACK Film & Writing Festival as a simple reaction to a strong need to showcase female talent from around the world in a more profound way. When putting together the weekly festival, the administration noticed a lack of a female presence in the stories being shown at the festival. A classic example and analogy to the frustration is how the festival noticed that even the smaller roles in a screenplay were written for a man to play. There was zero reason for this in many stories. How a police officer, or a political campaign manager, for example with 3-4 lines in a screenplay was a "HE" character. Why? And these are the screenplays written by the winners! The talented one who have obtained agents and have began/beginning their careers as a writer.
