Set in 1825 during the Black War in Tasmania, The Nightingale is a different kind of revenge story. Young Clare, our unlikely Liam Neeson, begins the movie by calming the nerves of military soldiers, soothing them with her sweet ballads. Even the most evil men —and trust me, Officer Hawkins (played by Sam Claflin) is… Continue reading The Nightingale — Billy Movie Reviews
Author: femalefilmfestival
The irony of this festival is that its goal is to not be around in 5 years time. To eventually not be relevant because there is zero need to have a festival geared for female talent and female stories because the stories presented in Hollywood and around the world are a balanced showcase of the human experience from both sexes.
Our goal is to achieve a lot of success and then fold into oblivion simply because there is no need for this festival.
This festival was created by the FEEDBACK Film & Writing Festival as a simple reaction to a strong need to showcase female talent from around the world in a more profound way.
When putting together the weekly festival, the administration noticed a lack of a female presence in the stories being shown at the festival.
A classic example and analogy to the frustration is how the festival noticed that even the smaller roles in a screenplay were written for a man to play. There was zero reason for this in many stories. How a police officer, or a political campaign manager, for example with 3-4 lines in a screenplay was a "HE" character. Why? And these are the screenplays written by the winners! The talented one who have obtained agents and have began/beginning their careers as a writer.

The Fine Line Between Art and Entertainment — Off The Script Films
Sean Baker’s The Florida Project tells the story of six-year-old Moonee and her misadventures as a naive girl living in poverty. With compelling acting from Brooklyn Prince (who was only seven at the time the movie came out), breathtaking cinematography by Alexis Zabe, and captivating shots from Sean Baker, this film quickly became one of […]… Continue reading The Fine Line Between Art and Entertainment — Off The Script Films
DisGraced: A Humorous Take On Everything Wrong With Entertainment Industry — The Art Of Monteque
By Sanyukta Thakare DisGraced is unexpectedly fun and raw, just as the leading character Grace Greene. The 8 part show follows Grace several years after her big break which turned out to be a dud, despite the immense fan following for her film. The best part is, DisGraced is an episodic series, we are not […]… Continue reading DisGraced: A Humorous Take On Everything Wrong With Entertainment Industry — The Art Of Monteque
Damestruck: Olivia (1951) — Citizen Dame
To hear many male critics tell it, lesbians were invented sometime in the 1970s, alongside women’s rights and the clitoris. The aggressively ahistorical nature of this attitude (and we all know it’s ahistorical, yes?) is as much a result of the lack of availability of non-mainstream films pre-1970—ones that were not made, produced by, or […]… Continue reading Damestruck: Olivia (1951) — Citizen Dame

Female Film Festival Testimonial – June 16 2020
Filmmaker Annabelle Frost (G(R)O(W)ING UP) My initial reaction was: grateful. It’s so hard to get honest reviews of your work and because you are so close to it as the artist you can’t really ever get a good, objective perspective on it yourself. It’s invaluable to hear what someone, who’s just watching it in a theater… Continue reading Female Film Festival Testimonial – June 16 2020
