Hortense Cumberbatch is a successful black middle class woman who had been adopted as a child, the death of her adoptive mother caused her to trace her family history. She wasn’t expecting her birth mother to be a working class white woman! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ via Secrets & Lies (1996) Review — Let’s Go To The Movies

The irony of this festival is that its goal is to not be around in 5 years time. To eventually not be relevant because there is zero need to have a festival geared for female talent and female stories because the stories presented in Hollywood and around the world are a balanced showcase of the human experience from both sexes.
Our goal is to achieve a lot of success and then fold into oblivion simply because there is no need for this festival.
This festival was created by the FEEDBACK Film & Writing Festival as a simple reaction to a strong need to showcase female talent from around the world in a more profound way.
When putting together the weekly festival, the administration noticed a lack of a female presence in the stories being shown at the festival.
A classic example and analogy to the frustration is how the festival noticed that even the smaller roles in a screenplay were written for a man to play. There was zero reason for this in many stories. How a police officer, or a political campaign manager, for example with 3-4 lines in a screenplay was a "HE" character. Why? And these are the screenplays written by the winners! The talented one who have obtained agents and have began/beginning their careers as a writer.
In Review: Irresistible — filmmixtape
Like the reanimation of ghosts past, the year leadup to an election cycle always guarantees a cinematic product and a shrugging response by audiences. Studios program glib or grim political musings that no one asked for, the best of which might have been the eyerolling self-seriousness of failed prestige play The Ides of March. Remember […]… Continue reading In Review: Irresistible — filmmixtape
Why Do Women Have to *Literally* Spill Their Guts to Be Funny? — RAZZ
You can watch Bridesmaids for free on BoB. Bridesmaids has taken on a special cultural significance since its release in 2011. Hailed as “terrifically funny, smart and tender”, the film, under Paul Feig’s directing and Judd Apatow’s producing, remains a frank display of women behaving badly. Yet it is precisely this ‘behaving badly’ that remains […]… Continue reading Why Do Women Have to *Literally* Spill Their Guts to Be Funny? — RAZZ

In 1937, Charles Addams drew his first entry for The New Yorker of the characters that would eventually come to be known as “The Addams Family” to the general populace. A couple of decades later, a chance sighting in a bookstore of a collection of these great cartoon works of art sparked the idea of… Continue reading What’s in a word? — Concentrated Randomness
Total eclipse of the… wait, what? — Concentrated Randomness
Bonnie Tyler has been in the music industry for around 50 years. That is an incredible accomplishment! In all of those years though, she is likely best known for her chart-topping 1983 power ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart” written by Jim Steinman. At it’s height of popularity, the single sold approximately 60,000 copies a… Continue reading Total eclipse of the… wait, what? — Concentrated Randomness

Taking It From The Top | Writer’s Life — Maggie’s Musings
A mental image for your consideration: It is 11:36 at night. The room is dim, with the only light coming from out-of-season Christmas lights strung around the perimeter of the ceiling. On the desk is a half-empty bowl of Goldfish crackers and a bottle of strawberry-kiwi flavored water. Someone is sitting at the desk, shoulders […]… Continue reading Taking It From The Top | Writer’s Life — Maggie’s Musings

Four Reasons Why People Enjoy “High-Brow” Creative Works — PekoeBlaze – the official blog
Well, I thought that I’d talk about “high-brow” creative works today or, more accurately, why people enjoy them. Although I’ll be talking in generalities here, it’s important to remember that this isn’t a “one or the other” thing. It is perfectly possible for a work to contain both “high-brow” and “low-brow” elements. In fact, many […]… Continue reading Four Reasons Why People Enjoy “High-Brow” Creative Works — PekoeBlaze – the official blog
